Jai Shri Krishna

Jai Shri Krishna

Jai Shri Krishna is so utterly unpretentious and lacking in style that you would be forgiven for passing it by without a second thought. But this is precisely what’s allowed it to remain one of North London’s best-kept secrets. Jai Shri Krishna serves up authentic vegetarian Indian food to a rota of regular customers – a testament to just how flavourful it is. You’ll find them repeatedly ordering the comfortingly moreish masala dosa (spiced fried potatoes wrapped in a thin and crispy pancake), the crunchy spinach bhajia, the rich dal makhani and the moreish baingan bharta (tandoor-cooked aubergine). At the end of the night you’ll wonder if they’ve left a couple of zeros off the bill – but it really is just that reasonably priced.

A great South Indian spot that we visit quite regularly.
The service is basic, the decor is hideous, the ambience is zero. I don’t care because the food is great.
Cheap, fast, filling and as a meat eater it’s good enough that I don’t care I’m not eating meat.
Much easier to get in the door than the other one in Stroud Green Road which is always full.

A few quirks.

– Cash Only. ATM’s very close by.
– You get a menu and you write your order down yourself. It’s never bothered me.
– If you want spice ask for it. Insist you don’t mind hot food.

I am a regular customer of Jai Shri Krishna, and have been for nearly 4 years.
I’ve never had a bad meal there and it’s so ridiculously cheap. I love the staff  they are friendly, kind and accommodating. They really get to know their regular customers  they recognise my voice on the phone when I order takeaway (oh dear haha) and they are always really helpful if you need an explanation of a new dish you are thinking of trying.
Disclaimer  I am a vegetarian, so obviously I’m going to be more of a fan than your average carnivore. But there are some vegetarian restaurants in London that are a) a complete rip-off and b) really not that great in terms of quality. Here you have simple, great quality South Indian food which is a delight to eat and priced at a level you can’t argue with.
I also took a bunch of friends for a meal there. It took me weeks to convince them as they’re all big meat eaters. But they genuinely seemed to enjoy it. I recommended the masala dosa to them as that’s a clear favourite of mine.
Highly recommend.

From an early age Rick would rather pick up a carrot than a sausage. Not a vegetarian, but would like people to think he was.
